New year - new ideas - new adventures

It's a new year with new ideas. So, we're rolling out some new adventures.

In addition to our virtual reality classes taking you on travel adventures around the world, we're introducing "Independent Adventures" that will keep your mind sharp, while challenging and entertaining you.

May contain: logo, trademark, symbol, label, and text

Consider registering for one of our three new independent adventures: Interactives, Brain Training and Music, all part of the VR application "Alcove."

Relax and enjoy a personal concert in a virtual music hall or cafe, play a game of checkers, chess or another game, or challenge your brain with "Memory Wall," "Hide and Seek" or "Magic Deck."

First, you'll put on one of our virtual headsets and then you will be transported to a virtual home-like environment, where you'll discover a number of activities.

If you have time while you're using the application, also check out the health and wellness virtual video library. Videos include "Your brain on love," "Your brain on pets," "How to turn your walk into a workout," "There's a right way to walk" and "Find an exercise that works for you," plus a video series from AARP on the topics of aging, caregiving, veterans, health and wellness, and entertainment.

May contain: wall, building, architecture, and pattern

Speaking of health and wellness, if one of your New Year's resolutions is to get in more steps, consider our Walking Group. We meet at 9 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday and go on a two-mile walk around the neighborhood. Afterward, we drink some water and chat a little bit about ourselves while building friendships with one another. Walking Group does not require an official sign-up. Come as often as you want. We meet in front of our offices in the E Building at 3639 E. Las Posas Road, Suite 117, in Camarillo.

More information on our introductory and intermediate level VR classes is available on our website.

Below is more information on our new VR brain games and concerts.

Interactives - Independent VR Adventures

May contain: chess and game

Studies have shown that seniors over the age of 75 were less likely to develop Alzheimer's disease if they played chess or checkers on a regular basis. The games exercise both sides of the brain, improving decision-making and problem-solving skills, and boost concentration.

So, we are bringing you Interactives using virtual reality, part of our "Independent VR Adventures" series. Put on one of our virtual reality headsets and choose among nine interactive games, including:

  • Chess
  • Checkers
  • Jigsaw 360
  • Matching Pairs
  • Speed Sort
  • Quick Blocks
  • Staying Sharp
  • 10x10
  • Rain Ripples, a meditative game in which you count the ripples.
