Milestones to celebrate and new VR Travel Clubs form
Camarillo Health Care District is marking some amazing milestones and we owe it to you!
District’s website traffic nearly triples
The District’s website is the place to be! Our website provides another way for us to connect with each of you to share information about our programs, services and classes, as well as informative videos, podcasts and photo galleries highlighting what we do. We are excited to announce that you helped us reach a major milestone, nearly one million pageviews, during this last fiscal year (2024-2025). We would like to thank the community for your interest in learning more about us and how we can support you. Come and check us out, if you haven’t already.
Expanding dementia education to professionals
We are honored every time a community group asks one of our staff members to present about District services. In July, Community Services Manager Michelle Rogers presented to the Moving Seniors Forward resource group, made up of more than two dozen professionals serving the community. She spoke about the award-winning Dementia Education/Caregiver support specialty classes and services, Dealing with Dementia and Dementia Live, as well as the District’s Adult Day Center. During this presentation, she spoke about the Dementia Friendly Ventura County Taskforce’s goal of training businesses to become Dementia Friendly certified, while also training individuals on becoming a “Dementia Friend,” with the goal of turning the county purple (the color associated with dementia awareness and Alzheimer’s disease). Are you interested in becoming a Dementia Friend? Call us and ask how.
District to share best practices with peers
This fall marks three years since the District’s award-winning Adventures in VR Program launched. Since that time, we have facilitated nearly 700 individual VR experiences. This includes people attending introductory and intermediate-level classes, our mobile VR Program Roam Around the World, and our new VR Travel Club, Activity Club and Off to the Races & More VR class. We are so honored to be selected as a “Best Practices” presenter at this year’s Association of California Health Care Districts (ACHD) Annual Meeting to be held in September, where we will share the history of our VR programs and classes, best practices and ways other health care districts can implement their own community program.

New VR Travel Clubs forming
Speaking of virtual reality ... we are excited to share that the District has five more VR Travel Clubs forming between Aug. 20 and Oct. 29. Do you want to be part of the fun? You can become a member and join the group in coming up with a travel club name (we've had Global Trips, Jet Setters, VR Trotters, Wanderlust) and make new friends as you chat about your travel experiences (virtual and in real life!). The upcoming virtual travel itineraries are as follows for the four-week series:
WEEK 1
European Vacation: Go on a bus ride through the streets of Rome, taking in the historic architecture and other breathtaking sights. Then, we're off to Verona and Italy for tours before strolling through an arboretum and watching a total eclipse of the sun. Our excursion is a concert.
WEEK 2
French Fantasy: We will tour Cannes and Nice, go on a bus tour through Paris and then explore the cities of Marseille and Avignon. Next up is an exciting race around Provence. Our excursion will be a sunset sail.
WEEK 3
South American Adventure: Tour Bogota, Medellin and Santiago De Cali before returning to nature with a Patagonia French Valley Hike, nature tour in Columbia and sunrise timelapse in Patagonia. Our excursion is flying over one of the 7 Wonders of the World, Christ the Redeemer.
WEEK 4
Marveling at the Middle East: We will start our adventure with a gyrocopter tour of Dubai, followed by a bus tour of the city, and then we'll explore Tel Aviv, Bethlehem and Oman. Our excursion is a camel ride in the Sahara. We also will check in on bathing elephants.
For times and dates, visit our website. To register, call 805-388-1952. Cost is $30 (out-of-District residents add $4). Clubs meet on our campus at 3639 Las Posas Road in Camarillo. We provide the equipment and facilitate the experience!

And we are pleased to regularly host Elder Legal appointments, financial planning consultations, nutrition counseling and Fraud and Scam Intervention Coaching, and offer an Adult Day Center, Transportation Services, a Caregiver Center with a resource library for family caregivers, Fall Prevention Programming and more.
