Senior Lunch Program

The Camarillo Health Care District is pleased to operate theSenior Lunch Program for the Greater Camarillo Area, in cooperation with the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging, the Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park District, and the City of Camarillo.

Appropriate and adequate nutrition has a direct effect on the aging process, and studies indicate that many senior citizens consume diets deficient in protein, vitamins C, B6, B12, folic acid, calcium and iron. Malnutrition, even in a mild form, is implicated in an escalating downward cycle of declining health. For example, poor mouth and teeth health might contribute to an inability to chew some foods; which can lead to malnutrition, weakness, depression and severe weight loss; which can lead to improper medication effect; which can lead to an exacerbation of existing health issues; which can lead to an acute health episode, possibly resulting in a hospital stay. Loneliness and depression may also severely alter eating habits which can lead to dietary deficiencies.

Please visit the Senior Lunch Program section of this website for more details on how this nutrition program can assist you and your loved ones. The Senior Lunch Program is designed to provide supplementary nutrition, and an opportunity for socialization for senior citizens age 60 and older. This program offers both a community mealsite program and a home-delivery program.

Cost
A $3.00 per meal donation is suggested. The Senior Lunch Program is partially-funded through the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging and community support and donations are necessary to maintain this service. The Apple-a-Day Café registration table offers an opportunity to make an anonymous donation each time you visit. If you or your loved one receives home-delivered meals, an envelope is provided for your convenience. Your support is important to the continuation of this program and is greatly appreciated.
