Hearing Screening and Seminar

This informational seminar will explain the latest advances in hearing aids.  A hearing screening, including video otoscope and hearing test will follow the seminar.  Participants are also welcome to bring their current hearing instruments for a variety of portable services that will be performed at no additional charge such as cleaning, tune-up and adjusting.  Battery replacement (for a nominal charge) will also be offered.  Bring your questions, and take advantage of this terrific  opportunity.

Skin Cancer Screening

Carotid (Stroke) Vascular Screening  $49
To visualize the build-up of fatty plaques in the carotid arteries, the cause of approximately 75% of all strokes.


Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening  $49
To visualize the existence of an aneurysm in the abdominal aorta which can rupture and be fatal.  (6 hour fasting required)


Cardiovascular Profiler*  $99
Hardening of the arteries is the main cause of heart attack and stroke.  This screening measures the (hardening) elasticity in the large and small arteries and was developed at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. 
(No caffeine 1 hour prior)

Kidney Screening*  $99
Kidney function and high blood pressure are often directly linked to heart disease.  The kidneys filter undesirable substances and excess water from the blood.  Problems occur when the kidneys are enlarged; shrunken; have cysts; have stones; or have fluid build-up.

Peripheral Artery Blockage Screening   $49
To screen for peripheral vascular disease in the lower extremities, which can indicate potential coronary artery disease.

Echocardiogram*  $295
To evaluate how well your heart chambers fill with blood and pump it to the rest of the body.  An echocardiogram also helps evaluate heart size and heart valve function.  Appointments are limited.

Thyroid Screening  $49
  To visualize the existence of cysts and solid masses and the conditions hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.

Liver Screening  $49
To visualize the existence of cysts and solid masses

Gallbladder Screening  $49
To visualize the existence of gallstones. The gallbladder is the storage
tank for bile, which breaks down food for digestion.

Bone Density Screening (Osteoporosis)  $49
Measuring bone mineral density is a way of determining risk of fracture.

Spleen $49
The spleen removes old, worn-out red blood cells and helps to recycle their iron.  Problems occur when the spleen appears enlarged; if any masses or cysts are visible; or if the texture is inhomogeneous.

ALT and AST Liver Functioning Test
The measurement of the enzymes ALT and AST are used on a routine basis to monitor liver disease. It is recommended that an ALT and AST test be given before taking statin drugs to lower cholesterol, and regularly thereafter.  Results are determined within 10 minutes.

Bone Density Analysis
The Achilles Express Bone Density Analyzer utilizes the latest ultrasound technology to detect bone density.  This is an important step in the prevention or management of osteoporosis. The measurement is taken on the patient’s heel, an easily assessible site which is the only peripheral site proven to predict fracture risk.  The test takes approximately five minutes and results are immediate.

Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c)  (no fasting required)
Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) is a minor component of hemoglobin to which glucose is bound.  HbA1c levels depend on the blood glucose concentration.  That is, the higher the glucose concentration in blood the higher the level of HbA1c.  This is a useful indicator of how well the blood glucose level has been controlled in the recent past and may be used to monitor the effects of diet, exercise and drug therapy on blood glucose in diabetic patients.

MyAllergy Test
MyAllergy Test measures the body’s response to a panel of the ten most common allergens with one small blood sample.  The test measures allergen specific 1gE response to the following:  Timothy grass, Bermuda grass, mountain cedar, ragweed, mold, dust mite, cat milk, egg white, and wheat.  Results are available within a few days after a sample is received at the Immune Tech Lab.  This test is effective for up to 96% of those who are allergic.

Total Lipid Panel
This screening is for the measurement of total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL (good cholesterol), LDL (bad cholesterol), and risk ratio (your chances of developing heart disease).  Screening is done by a finger stick and results are immediate.

Vision Screening

Did you know that vision is more than seeing 20/20?  Many problems with the eye, such as glaucoma, do not affect your 20/20 vision.  That is why it is so important to have your eyes checked and have your questions answered regarding glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetes, etc.   Is your child having trouble reading, studying, or focusing when doing close up work?  Find out if this problem is related to his/her vision.  Come get your vision screened and have your questions answered by an Optometrist.  This screening is for all ages.

Blood Sugar Testing

Elevated blood sugar can often indicate the first signs of diabetes.  It has been proven that early detection often prevents some devastating effects of this disease.  The test is done with a simple finger stick.  (This is a screening only, and not to be used as a diagnosis of diabetes.)  The screening is not available for individuals who have been diagnosed with diabetes, individuals under age 18, or women who are pregnant.

Colon Cancer Screening
Cancer of the large bowel, colon, and rectum is a highly treatable and often curable disease, when it is localized and diagnosed in its early stages.  The Camarillo Health Care District, in cooperation with the Ventura County Gastroenterology Physicians Group, provides a testing kit to detect blood in the stool, which is often the forerunner of a serious problem.  This test is especially recommended for people who have immediate family members with colorectal cancer.

Depression Screening

In cooperation with Morbrook Institute, Camarillo Health Care District is a national site to conduct depression screenings.  In addition to screening for depression, other screenings are also available, such as Bipolar Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Post-Partum Disorders (Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale).
