REGISTRATION INFORMATION: The classes, workshops, and lectures listed in Healthy Attitudes are designed to help you maximize your health status. Prepayment is required in order to secure your reservation and we recommend that you confirm prior to attending. To cancel your class registration and/or receive a refund, you must call 48 hours prior to the day of class. A 20% processing fee will be deducted from any refund request received less than 48 hours prior to the event. NO refunds if cancelled on day of class.

Balance Your Life . . .
Centering (a.k.a. Meditation) For Busy Minds

In A New Earth, Eckhart Tolle teaches some basic centering techniques that have transformed millions. These techniques and more are introduced on a weekly basis in this course, which emphasizes that the end result is more important than the means you use to get there. Please bring a yoga mat or something comfortable to lie upon. Basic concepts taught in the first two meetings will be used throughout the series, so drop-ins are discouraged.

Qigong is an ancient Chinese art form for strengthening the body’s vital energy. This practice benefits your body by relieving stress, increasing your energy and muscular endurance and aids your digestive system. The exercise consists of deep breathing with gentle upper body movements and some twisting from the waist while standing in a stationary position. This exercise can also be performed sitting down, if needed. If you are looking for a way to relieve stress in a gentle way and improve your general well being, Qigong could be your answer. (Wear comfortable clothing with Kung Fu shoes or athletic sneakers and bring a yoga mat)

Reiki Sessions

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Administered by “laying on hands,” while you are on a massage table, the technique is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If our “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to be sick or stressed; if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. This treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you.

AARP Driver’s Safety Program . . .
A Unique Program for Older Drivers
July 12, 19 (S) 9am-1pm (Two sessions)

This eight-hour classroom instruction is designed to refine existing skills and develop safe, defensive driving techniques. This program is produced by AARP and is conducted in two half-day sessions. AARP Driver’s Safety Program teaches preventive measures to use when driving, that save lives. You will learn defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws, and rules of the road. Find out how to adjust your driving to age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time. Learn how to handle problem situations such as left turns, right-of-ways, freeway traffic, trucks, blind spots and more! This class is offered to all ages and out-of-state driver’s licenses are accepted. Those 55 years of age and older receive a discount on auto insurance in California. Each participant will receive a certificate upon completion of the course.

AARP Safe Driver Refresher Course
August 16 (S) 9am-1pm
This refresher course is designed for the driver who has already completed an eight-hour Driver Safety Program. The AARP Driver Safety Program is the nation’s first and largest refresher course for drivers age 50+ and has helped millions of drivers remain safe on today’s roads. You will learn about current rules of the road, how to operate your vehicle more safely in today’s increasingly challenging driving environment, and adjustments to common age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time. After completing the course, you will develop a greater appreciation of driving challenges, and how you can avoid potential collisions and injuries to yourself or others. Each participant will receive a certificate upon completion of the course.

CPR
First and Third Saturdays of each month• 9am-1pm

This four-hour class on basic CPR will include CPR for infants and children. Participants satisfactorily completing the course will receive a two-year American Heart Association Heart Saver CPR card. Note: This class does not meet the Health Care Provider requirements; however, it does meet the Day Care and Home Care Provider requirements. This class is designed for individuals 16 years of age and older. Class size is limited. (Includes book)

Basic Life Support (BLS)
for Healthcare Provider CPR

This course is designed to prepare healthcare professionals in recognizing life-threatening emergencies, and to provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in the responsive and unresponsive victim of any age. This class will also include performing one and two person CPR for adult, child and infant victims, and will demonstrate the use of protective barrier devices to give breaths to a victim both mask-to-mouth, and valve bag-to-mask. This class meets the Health Care Provider requirements. (Includes book)

First Aid

This four-hour class on Basic First Aid, will emphasize bleeding control, caring for a shock patient, dealing with burns, learning to apply splints, and caring for someone who suddenly becomes ill. This class includes a booklet and handouts. Upon satisfactory completion of the course, participants will receive an American Red Cross First Aid card. (Note: This course does not meet the California Child Care Provider Requirements.)

Coumadin-What You Need to Know

Coumadin is an anticoagulant. “Anti” means against, and “coagulant” refers to blood clotting. An anticoagulant, such as Coumadin, helps reduce clots from forming in the blood and are sometimes prescribed for stroke and cardiac
patients. This class will discuss Coumadin, in conjunction with other medications, exercise, diet and side effects. Learn how to manage
this useful medication.

Helping Children Deal With Loss

This program is designed for adults to help children deal with death, divorce, moving and other losses. There are many myths about dealing with sad emotions that confuse children: Time heals all wounds... Replace the loss…Cry alone…Be strong for others…Bury your feelings…Don’t feel bad, have a cookie, you’ll feel better… In this program you will learn how to replace these myths with practical guidance for your children. This includes learning: 1) to listen with your heart, not your head, 2) to allow all emotions to be expressed, without judgment, 3) to recognize that grief is emotional, not intellectual, 4) how telling the truth about your own grief will help a child feel safe in opening up, and 5) to remember that each child and their relationship to loss is unique.
